There is a company in London, England called Curb that specializes in “delivering brands in natural media”.
Their latest venture in viral or direct marketing is stamping stencils in snow. Coincidentally London had a major snowfall which I understand is not common, but this company had everything at the ready.
According to the article on the Springwise website ” The Curb team went out into central London—which has been unusually wintry these past few days—to deliver a quick-hit campaign for sports channel and lifestyle brand Extreme. Over 3,500 imprints were placed on parked cars, post boxes, walls and other snow-covered surfaces. The company used a laser-cut stencil to leave sharp imprints.
Great detail from an entrepreneurial point of view: this wasn’t a planned campaign, at least not by Extreme. Curb realized they could do a smart burst of branding for Extreme if it would snow. So they prepared the stamps ahead of time, and called Extreme when it started snowing. The brand—clearly not constrained by slow-moving approval processes—seized the opportunity, gave an immediate go-ahead and is happy with the outcome.”
I originally learned about them when they introduced using stencils and high pressure water to create advertising on sidewalks.
There have been mixed reviews of this form of advertising with some seeing it as graffiti and others as a way of getting a street cleaned.
The next time I looked a their website they had added sand sculptures .
I wonder what is next? Drawing ads on dusty windshields? I think I will watch this company to see what they come up with.
